The Saemaul Women's Association (President Kim Young-sun) of Yeonpyeong-myeon Township in Ongjin-gun County, Incheon, served samgyetang, or ginseng chicken soup, to local senior citizens to mark chobok, the first of the year's three hottest days, looking after their health during the sweltering summer heat. The Yeonpyeong-myeon Saemaul Women's Association announced that it held a "Free Samgyetang Sharing Event for Chobok" at the Yeonpyeong Community Center on July 13.

The event was organized to look after the health of local seniors and share warmth among neighbors as the peak summer heat began in earnest. Residents 65 and older living in Yeonpyeong-myeon took part in the event and spent a meaningful time together.

Members of the Saemaul Women's Association began preparing samgyetang and side dishes early in the morning that day, serving the food to seniors while checking on their health and well-being. Seniors who attended the event shared the carefully prepared meal, gaining strength to endure the summer heat while also spending time connecting with fellow residents.

The Yeonpyeong-myeon Saemaul Women's Association has led efforts to spread a culture of community sharing through various volunteer activities every year, including support for vulnerable groups, environmental cleanups and neighborhood assistance. This year, too, the association organized the event to mark chobok as an occasion to help seniors restore their strength and check on their well-being.

Township Chief Hwang Jun-cheol of Yeonpyeong-myeon said, "I hope that as chobok marks the start of the summer heat, our seniors can regain their strength by enjoying the samgyetang prepared with care and spend a healthy summer." He added, "We will continue our efforts to practice neighborly love and build a Yeonpyeong-myeon overflowing with warmth."

Such sharing activities by the Yeonpyeong-myeon Saemaul Women's Association carry significance in that they serve as a community welfare safety net, filling gaps in health care for elderly residents living alone, a vulnerable group during the summer months.
