Ahead of the peak summer heat, the Gangseo-gu Office in Seoul (Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon) announced that it will run the ‘2026 Woojangsan Summer Water Park’ for ten days, from July 31 to August 9, at the soccer field in Woojangsan Neighborhood Park. Selected through a public program competition run by the Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council, the project is being carried out in partnership with the Gangseo-gu Sports Council, with the aim of giving residents a safe place to cool off close to home rather than traveling far for a summer getaway.

The Woojangsan Water Park will feature a lazy river along with a variety of water play facilities, including inflatable slides and air bounce structures. Amenities such as changing rooms, showers, shaded rest areas and food trucks will also be provided so that families can use the facilities comfortably. The park will operate twice a day, in a morning session (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and an afternoon session (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.), with up to 400 visitors per session and a daily maximum of 800. On August 1, 7 and 8, when tropical nights are expected to be especially intense, the park will also stay open at night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., giving residents worn down by the lingering heat a chance to cool off in the evening.

Residents who wish to visit can make reservations starting at 9 a.m. on the 27th through the Gangseo-gu Sports Council website (www.강서구체육회.com). Admission is set at 2,000 won per person, with no distinction between adults and children. The district has designated August 6 as ‘Together Dream Day,’ when families from vulnerable households and children under the protection of child welfare facilities in the district will be invited to the water park free of charge. As heat waves grow longer each year, the summer heat itself weighs heavily on vulnerable residents who often have less access to cooling and water play options, and the event is seen as an effort to realize inclusive welfare in which all residents, regardless of background, can enjoy the season together.

Safety is an essential part of running any water play facility. The district plans to operate an emergency medical response system, keep safety personnel on site at all times, and regularly monitor water quality so visitors can use the facilities with peace of mind. Gangseo-gu Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said, “Through the opening of this water park, I hope children will make happy memories and parents will find comfortable rest and relaxation in the heart of the city.” He added, “Above all, we will put safety first and do our utmost in facility operation and safety management so that every visitor can enjoy the water park with peace of mind.”

Summer water parks built around urban parks remain in steady demand every year, as they let residents beat the heat without having to travel far. Gangseo-gu hopes that the Woojangsan Summer Water Park will not be a fleeting, one-season attraction but will establish itself, through its partnership with the local sports council, as a signature summer rest spot that combines safety with convenience.
