The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) will conduct the ‘2026 Incheon Metropolitan City Social Survey’ from August 3 to September 16, covering a sample of 9,000 households. The survey aims to grasp broad social changes in residents’ living conditions, attitudes and quality of life, and to serve as baseline data for policies tailored to the region.

Incheon is set to take a close look at changes in the daily lives and perceptions of its residents through the ‘2026 Incheon Metropolitan City Social Survey.’ The survey runs from August 3 to September 16 and targets a sample of 9,000 households that, as of August 1, 2026, include members aged 13 or older residing in Incheon.

The Incheon social survey is a regional statistical survey that continuously tracks broad social changes in residents’ living conditions, attitudes and quality of life. Its findings are used as baseline data to support policymaking that reflects the region’s characteristics and to improve administrative services. Beyond simply gauging conditions, the survey is significant as a channel for identifying the quality of life residents actually experience and emerging policy needs.

This year’s survey features a more refined framework. The survey structure has been adjusted so that changes in regional conditions stemming from administrative-system reorganization can be analyzed on an ongoing basis, and questions have been strengthened to secure baseline data needed for women’s and youth policies. In particular, new questions reflecting a rapidly shifting social environment—such as whether residents use artificial intelligence (AI) services and the impact of such use—have been added, allowing changes in residents’ lives and policy needs to be captured more broadly.

The survey spans 11 areas covering nearly every aspect of residents’ lives: ▲population ▲households and family ▲health ▲education ▲labor ▲income and consumption ▲housing and transportation ▲the environment ▲safety ▲social integration ▲culture and leisure. The survey items comprise a total of 172 indicators, consisting of objective indicators drawn from administrative data and social-survey items that gauge residents’ living conditions and perceptions across each field.

The survey will be carried out through in-person interviews, with enumerators visiting the target households directly. To accommodate residents who find it difficult to take part in a household visit, however, an online survey will also be offered to make participation more convenient.

After data analysis and verification, the results will be released on the Incheon Data Portal (https://data.incheon.go.kr) at the end of December this year, and will also be made available through the Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS) in the first half of next year. Incheon plans to share the analysis with relevant departments and use it as baseline data for policymaking, project implementation and policy-performance evaluation in each field.

Song Tae-jin, the city’s director of policy planning, said, ‘The social survey is an important survey for understanding changes in residents’ lives and the state of the local community,’ adding, ‘We ask for the active participation and cooperation of the surveyed households so that more accurate statistics can be produced.’
