Pyeon recorded 354.8 points to win the women's 50m rifle three-position individual event at the National Shooting Championship for the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency's Trophy. The score stands as a new tournament record for the event.
The 50m rifle three-position event, in which athletes compete across the kneeling, prone and standing positions, is known to be a demanding discipline that tests both precision aim and stamina, making it difficult even to complete the full course. This adds greater significance to the new tournament record set in such an event.
With a Michuhol-gu District shooting team athlete winning first place and setting a new record at a nationwide tournament, the competitiveness of the locally based semi-professional team has once again been shown to hold up at the national level.
As the performance of district-affiliated athletic teams at national competitions is also regarded as a barometer of local sports infrastructure and standing, this victory is being seen as encouraging news for Michuhol-gu District's sports administration as well.
