The National Children’s Science Center (Director Kim Bo-yeol) will run the ‘2026 AI Robot Playground’, where children and families experience artificial intelligence (AI) and robots through play, from Aug. 15 to 17. Over the three-day Liberation Day holiday, exhibitions, education, performances and lectures will unfold throughout the center, designed to let children on vacation encounter future technology in a natural way.

The National Children’s Science Center said it built the event around play and hands-on experience so that children can approach artificial intelligence without pressure and develop the AI literacy needed in a future society. Under the theme ‘A joyful vacation of learning through experience while playing with AI and robots’, the program offers a wide range of content, including the 「AI Creation Playground」 and 「Robot Playground」, along with performances, lectures, educational programs and events.
At the 「AI Creation Playground」, children become creators themselves using generative AI apps. The ‘AI Magic Music Room’, where music is composed with songwriting AI; the ‘AI Design Studio’, where book covers are decorated with design tools; the ‘AI Sticker Factory’, which produces stickers; and the ‘AI Cartoon House’, where children try being webtoon artists, will operate on an ongoing basis in the second-floor lounge.
At the 「Robot Playground」, children learn the principles of AI and robots with their whole bodies. On offer are the ‘AI Robot World Cup’, a contest against a humanoid robot; ‘Baduk and Omok Matches with a Smart Robot’; the ‘Fun Dance Party with a Copycat Robot’, in which participants mimic movements through pose-recognition AI; and ‘A Grand Maze Adventure’, escaping a maze with a little robot. In addition, to mark Liberation Day, an ant robot will perform the national anthem and other pieces in a ‘Robot Concert’, mini robots will dance in a ‘Fantastic Robot Show’, and a robot dog will join visitors on ‘A Walk with a Quadruped Robot’ through the center, giving a vivid experience of cutting-edge robot technology.
On the opening day, Aug. 15, from 3:30 p.m. at the Science Theater on the first floor, robotics expert Lee Hyeon-jong (CEO of Roboworks and Makeware) will give a special lecture on the theme ‘The Age of AI and Robots and Our Lives’. He will introduce AI and robot technologies in everyday life, such as autonomous driving, care robots and unmanned aircraft (drones), and convey the importance of creativity and digital competency for a future society at a level suited to children and families. The lecture will be accompanied by a drone magic show and a robot performance. As an educational program, ‘Lego AI Creator’, in which children learn coding with Lego alongside their parents, will run three times a day.
The National Children’s Science Center expects that, by letting not only children but also their guardians experience AI and robots firsthand, the event will become an opportunity for families to understand and communicate about future science and technology together. For safe operation, it plans to put in place professional operating staff and a safety management system and to create a comfortable environment for the experience.
Director Kim Bo-yeol said, ‘As AI and robots are core technologies that will lead the future society, it is important for children to naturally understand technology through play and to nurture creative imagination’, adding, ‘I hope this AI Robot Playground establishes itself as a science-culture event where the whole family experiences and enjoys future technology together while asking questions about robots’.
