The council announced the results of the project on the 13th, explaining that it targeted low-income, vulnerable residents who face difficulties with their diets during the summer.

Council members visited each target household individually to deliver kimchi, while also checking on the living conditions of neighbors enduring hardship amid the intense heat, combining sharing with care.

The council said the project was meaningful in that it went beyond simple material support, serving as an opportunity to check for blind spots in the community's welfare safety net and to share affection among neighbors. It plans to continue working with local residents to identify neighbors in need and to carry out a variety of welfare projects that residents can tangibly feel.

Civilian Chairperson Yoon Kyung-won said, "Although it is a small gesture, I hope this warm gesture reaches our struggling neighbors as they endure the hot summer," adding, "We will continue to look after our neighbors and build a Gaehang-dong where everyone can be happy together."

Seo Yeon-suk, head of Gaehang-dong, also said, "Thanks to the active participation and interest of council members, we were able to deliver warm sharing to struggling neighbors in the community," adding, "We will continue to have the public and private sectors cooperate to eliminate welfare blind spots and build a community where sharing and care continue."

Beyond this kimchi-sharing initiative, the Gaehang-dong Community Social Security Council has worked to build a local care safety net through various public-private cooperative projects specialized in ongoing protection of vulnerable populations, identifying welfare blind spots, and welfare check-in services.

Observers note that as the health and living conditions of vulnerable populations become even more precarious during the ongoing summer heat wave, such in-person outreach and sharing activities play a role in filling gaps in the local welfare network.
