The Wolmi Park Office of Incheon Metropolitan City announced that, with the arrival of the hot summer season, it has planted sunflowers across the traditional garden area of Wolmi Park to provide citizens with a resting space in the heart of the city.
The newly created sunflower plot blends with the tranquil hanok structures of the traditional garden, forming a landscape where visitors can feel both Korean beauty and the vibrancy of summer at the same time. The path of golden-hued sunflowers is expected to add vitality to everyday life for park visitors and to become a photo spot where families and friends can create lasting memories.
The traditional garden at Wolmi Park is a space that recreates Korea’s traditional style, and as a place where visitors can appreciate seasonal wildflowers and traditional landscaping, it draws a steady stream of citizens each year. With the walking trails around the traditional garden well maintained, it is an ideal spot to enjoy a leisurely stroll along with the sunflowers. Visiting in connection with the park’s forest interpretation and traditional culture experience programs makes for an even more rewarding outing.
This sunflower planting is significant in that it goes beyond simply creating scenery: it offers citizens an opportunity to encounter nature and take a rest at a nearby urban park during a summer when outdoor activity tends to shrink because of the heat. It also draws attention as a life-friendly leisure space where the whole family can visit, take photos, and enjoy a walk without any additional cost.
Oh Myung-seok, head of the city’s Wolmi Park Office, said, ‘The elegant scenery of the traditional garden combined with the yellow sunflowers will bring a distinctive kind of joy to citizens worn out by the heat,’ adding, ‘I hope people will fully enjoy the fresh nature of summer at Wolmi Park and spend a relaxing time of rest.’
