Ganghwa-gun is providing smart power strips equipped with an automatic overheat cutoff function to disaster-vulnerable residents living in aging apartment buildings. The measure aims to proactively protect seniors and others who find it difficult to detect fires or respond in their early stages from winter electrical fires.

Ganghwa-gun (Governor Park Yong-chul) announced that it is providing smart power strips with an automatic overheat cutoff function to disaster-vulnerable residents of aging apartment buildings who are prone to the risk of electrical fires.

The project was arranged to respond to the growing risk of electrical fires as the use of heating appliances increases in older residences. In particular, it focuses on securing the safety of disaster-vulnerable residents, such as seniors who have difficulty detecting or responding to fires in time, before an accident occurs.

The smart power strips being provided feature a safety function that detects and automatically shuts off the power supply when the internal temperature rises sharply or an overload occurs. The county expects the strips to be effective in preventing electrical short circuits and overheating fires, which easily occur due to worn wiring in aging homes or the so-called octopus-style use of outlets.

Electrical fires often start in places that are not easily visible, such as inside walls or behind outlets, making it difficult for residents to notice warning signs. Because delayed initial response can lead to greater damage, a device that automatically cuts off danger can serve as a practical safety measure for households of seniors living alone.

Governor Park Yong-chul said, ‘Electrical fires start in places that are hard to see, and if the initial response is delayed, they can lead to major damage,’ adding, ‘I hope this smart power strip support will help protect the safety of disaster-vulnerable residents, such as seniors who are vulnerable to fire.’

He continued, ‘We will continue to carefully examine safety vulnerabilities in daily life and build a safety net with no blind spots, creating a Ganghwa where residents can live with peace of mind.’

Inquiries related to the project can be directed to the Safety Planning Team of the Safety Management Division at Ganghwa-gun (032-930-3493).
