‘THE SCENE’ is a concert conceived to carry on the musical legacy of Incheon, once a hub of Korean rock, and to fill the landscape of the city and its youth with music. Since its debut in 2024, the series now marks its third season this year. The ‘scene’ in the concert’s name refers to an environment in which the many participants surrounding music, including musicians, venues and audiences, are organically connected to form a single musical ecosystem. The Incheon Culture & Arts Center has built this musical environment through performance, sustaining the flow of local band music.
This year’s program turns its attention to the present and future of band music. Veteran bands that have long built their own musical worlds share the stage in harmony with emerging bands drawing attention for their fresh sensibilities. In particular, Amulets, a band representing Macau, will perform, broadening the scope of musical exchange across East Asia.
The most notable change this year is the expansion of the performance space. Previously held in a 100-seat multipurpose cultural space, the concert has moved to the 500-seat Small Concert Hall to raise the level of its stage production. By making use of the theater’s classic proscenium stage, the series enhances the quality of lighting, sound and overall staging, while offering musicians a stable and professional performance environment. The aim is to give audiences a deeper sense of immersion and to provide artists with a stage on which they can fully unfold their musical talents.
Seven teams in all will take part over the three days. Among them is Broccoli, you too?, long beloved for its heartfelt lyrics and delicate music, alongside SINCO, a singer-songwriter who crosses the boundaries of ambient and electronic music; Far East Asia Tigers, who fill the stage with lively energy; Amulets, an icon of Macau’s rock scene; Hathaway, showcasing the charm of indie pop; Jack Kingkong, a jazz-pop band of refined groove; and Sanbo, who sings the emotions of youth through powerful storytelling, each filling the stage with their own music.
An official at the Incheon Culture & Arts Center said the concert is a place where musicians of different musical colors gather together to create a single ‘scene’ with the audience, adding that they hope it will be a time to feel up close the comfort and energy that music conveys and to discover new possibilities for Incheon’s rock music.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the weekdays of Sept. 3 and 4, and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. Tickets are priced at 20,000 won for all seats, and admission is open to those in elementary school and above. The event is hosted by Incheon Metropolitan City and organized by the Incheon Culture & Arts Center. Reservations and further details are available on the Incheon Culture & Arts Center website, as well as through NTicket (1588-2341) and NOL Ticket (1544-1555). Inquiries can be directed to the Incheon Culture & Arts Center (032-420-2735).
That a regional arts center has sustained its own branded performances for a third year without relying on outside promoters, growing the scale fivefold, means citizens now have far greater opportunities to enjoy polished band concerts close to home. The invitation of an overseas band has also broadened the reach of the local stage.
