The Incheon Metropolitan City Institute of Public Health and Environment (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it has been selected as one of the Ministry of Education’s 2026 Certified Educational Donation Career Experience Institutions.

The Educational Donation Career Experience Certification system is designed to identify institutions that provide young people with high-quality career experience opportunities free of charge. The government certifies outstanding institutions after a comprehensive review of each program’s operating framework, educational quality, safety and sustainability. For students and parents, it means access to trustworthy, government-verified experience sites at no cost.

The certification was awarded to the Institute’s flagship program, the Environmental Academy. Having engaged more than 7,500 students from 2010 to the present, the Academy carries significant meaning in that the public value and excellence it has built over the years have now been formally recognized.

The Environmental Academy accepts applications and operates through ‘Ggumgil’, the Ministry of Education’s career experience platform. Rather than relying on theory-centered environmental education, the program is distinguished by allowing students to directly encounter, in the field, the testing and research work the Institute actually carries out. Through this process, students come to naturally understand the role of environmental researchers and the functions of a public research institution.

The program focuses on conveying major domestic and international environmental issues — such as the climate crisis and carbon neutrality, fine dust and microplastics — in terms suited to a young audience. It provides close support so that students can understand everyday environmental problems from a scientific perspective and explore solutions on their own.

The Institute plans to further strengthen the professionalism and public value of its education on the strength of this certification. It intends to continuously expand related programs so that more students can develop an interest in the fields of environment and science and nurture their career aspirations.

Kim Myung-hee, director of the Incheon Institute of Public Health and Environment, said, ‘This certification as an educational donation career experience institution is a meaningful achievement that officially recognizes the public value of the environmental education the Institute has built together with local youth over many years.’ She added, ‘We will continue to strengthen our educational content so that future generations can experience, in an easy and engaging way, the environmental issues they must know, and we will do our utmost to cultivate the environmental experts of the future.’
