Ganghwa-gun has completed a hazard survey covering 119 work processes across 18 departments to prevent musculoskeletal disorders among on-site workers at public offices, and has begun process-specific tailored measures for the 13 processes found to require improvement. Road repair work was classified as ‘immediate improvement,’ the highest priority level, and will be the first to be addressed.

Ganghwa-gun (Mayor Park Yong-cheol) announced that, in order to prevent musculoskeletal disorders among workers and create a safe working environment, it completed a hazard survey of musculoskeletal-burdening tasks this past May and is now pursuing improvements to the working environment on a process-by-process basis based on the survey results.
This survey is a legally mandated measure carried out every three years under the 「Rules on Occupational Safety and Health Standards」. Conducted again this year following the 2023 survey, its purpose is to identify in advance factors that can cause musculoskeletal disorders, such as repetitive motions, awkward postures, or the use of excessive force during work.
To enhance objectivity and expertise, the survey was carried out in two stages: a first-round questionnaire and a second-round on-site inspection. It covered all 119 processes across 18 departments, comprehensively examining ▲work processes and workload ▲working hours and postures ▲work methods and repetitive motions ▲handling of heavy objects and the use of force ▲workers’ symptoms and opinions.
As a result, hazardous factors requiring improvement were identified in a total of 13 processes, including office building cleaning and road repair work. The most frequently observed factor was ‘unnatural posture,’ and in some processes the physical burden of handling heavy objects was also revealed.
In the priority analysis, road repair work was ranked highest, classified as ‘immediate improvement.’ Landscape maintenance and recycling sorting work were placed in the ‘improvement’ category, while office building cleaning and environmental cleanup work fell into the ‘improvement needed’ category, indicating that follow-up measures suited to the characteristics of each process are required.
Accordingly, the county is carrying out measures tailored to field conditions, including improving work methods and the working environment, introducing assistive tools and convenience facilities, and providing guidance on correct working postures. In particular, it is placing emphasis on substantially reducing workers’ physical burden by taking into account both the hazardous factors and the priority level of each process.

Such measures carry the significance of reducing the risks felt by on-site workers who use their bodies repetitively — as in cleaning, road repair, and landscape maintenance — thereby creating an environment where people can work with peace of mind over the long term.
Ganghwa County Mayor Park Yong-cheol said, ‘The health and safety of our workers is our most important value,’ adding, ‘Based on the results of the hazard survey, we will do our utmost to carefully improve even the smallest risk factors in the field and create a healthy, safe workplace where workers can work with peace of mind.’
Meanwhile, inquiries regarding the survey and improvements can be directed to the Safety and Health Team of the Safety Management Division at Ganghwa-gun (032-930-3803).
