The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) attended the completion ceremony for the Semiconductor and Bio Education Building held at 11 a.m. on August 19 at Inha University’s Yonghyeon Campus, celebrating its completion and reaffirming its commitment to industry-academia cooperation for nurturing talent in the region’s advanced industries. The new building is the fruit of the specialized university support project that the city has been pursuing, and it is expected to become a new hub for field-tailored education that links theory with practice.

The completion ceremony was attended by key figures from industry, academia, and research circles, including officials from the Incheon city government, who commended the achievements of the project so far and joined together in celebrating the building’s launch. Attendees expressed hope that the newly created educational space would establish itself as a foundation for learning and growth for students who will lead the advanced industries of the future.

The completed education building stands three stories above ground and was designed as an educational and training space to cultivate field-tailored specialists in the semiconductor and bio fields. Inside, it houses cleanroom facilities (a whiteroom and a photo room) for semiconductor process training, as well as a back-end process analysis lab, research labs, and an equipment operation room. It is also equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) bio process training lab, an AI quality analysis training lab, mid- to large-sized lecture rooms, and seminar rooms, providing a variety of spaces that encompass both semiconductor and bio education and hands-on practice.

Going forward, students are expected to use the specialized educational facilities and equipment provided in the building to receive education that links theory with practice and to develop the practical competencies demanded in industrial settings. As students can now experience actual process environments within the university, the project carries significant meaning for the local community in that it lays the groundwork for producing talent ready to be deployed in the field upon graduation.

Incheon has been dedicating its efforts to attracting and supporting nationally designated specialized universities in core advanced industry fields such as semiconductors, bio, and robotics. As a result, the fields of semiconductors (Inha University and Yonsei University) in 2024, bio and secondary batteries (Inha University) in 2025, and robotics (Inha University) in 2026 were successively selected. Through systematic support for these specialized universities, the city has been expanding the education, research, and training infrastructure in advanced industry fields and advancing the cultivation of innovative talent.

In particular, Incheon boasts a solid semiconductor industry base as the nation’s top city for system semiconductor exports, with a concentration of global semiconductor packaging and testing companies as well as materials, parts, and equipment firms. It is also accelerating efforts to strengthen industrial competitiveness as a leading domestic bio production hub, including the development of a specialized bio complex under the national advanced strategic industries framework. The completion of this education building is seen as broadening the foundation for the region’s industries and universities to grow together by adding talent-cultivation infrastructure to this industrial base.

Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae said, ‘This building that has opened its doors today is the future of our Incheon and will serve as an excellent cradle for the core talent who will lead the tomorrow of the Republic of Korea’s advanced industries.’ He added, ‘Incheon will provide firm support so that a virtuous cycle takes hold, in which the outstanding talent nurtured here attracts promising companies, and those companies in turn cultivate more of the region’s talent.’
