The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that on the 20th it held a Briefing on the Progress of District and County Proposals, chaired by Mayor Park Chan-dae, to review the current status and future plans for 33 regional agenda items proposed by county and district heads at the first policy meeting of the ninth popularly elected administration last month.
The briefing was arranged not merely to gather the proposals of the districts and counties but to actually reflect them in city administration and carry them out with a sense of urgency. Mayor Park Chan-dae personally chaired the meeting, overseeing the progress of each project and intensively discussing administrative and financial support measures as well as ways to remove obstacles that had emerged during implementation.
Using this meeting as a turning point, Incheon decided to redefine the function of the consultative body between the city and its districts and counties in a more substantive way. At the quarterly policy meetings, the city plans to build a cooperation system centered on shared tasks, while through the monthly councils it will share district and county issues in real time and realize citizen-centered cooperative administration.
Earlier, Incheon and its 11 districts and counties had agreed through a policy meeting to work as one team to jointly resolve issues directly tied to citizens’ daily lives. Through this briefing, the city intends to raise the completeness of its policies by carrying out continuous follow-up management so that communication does not end as a one-time event.
Such a regular review system is significant in that it serves as a mechanism to verify whether the issues raised from residents’ perspectives actually lead to changes in daily life. The focus is on ensuring that issues residents experience in everyday life — such as roads, welfare and safety — are managed all the way to the implementation stage rather than remaining a mere list of administrative achievements.
Mayor Park Chan-dae emphasized, ‘The proposals of the districts and counties are the urgent voices of citizens on the ground,’ adding, ‘Rather than communication that stops at words, I will personally attend to each and every proposal and carry it out swiftly and responsibly so that citizens can feel the change in their daily lives.’
Based on this regular review system, Incheon plans to strengthen on-site communication and further solidify a model of mutual cooperation to realize a future of Incheon that we open together.
