33rd Korea International Art Exhibition Brings Together More Than 200 Artists in Yongsan

From traditional art to AI and digital painting, Korean and international artists come together for a global platform of artistic exchange

The 33rd Korea International Art Exhibition concluded at the Yongsan District Office Art Hall Gallery in Seoul after presenting works by artists from Korea and abroad. Organized by the Korea International Art Exchange Association, the exhibition was held from August 14 to 25. Around 150 Korean artists and 50 international artists participated, with approximately 200 works displayed. Featuring a wide range of genres, from traditional art to AI and digital media, the exhibition created a platform for artistic exchange across generations, national borders, and disciplines.

The 33rd Korea International Art Exhibition showcased a broad spectrum of visual arts, including Western painting, Korean painting, watercolor, literati painting, calligraphy, and photography. The exhibition also featured AI art, design, digital painting, sculpture, crafts, and installation art. By bringing together diverse forms of artistic expression in one space, the event highlighted the evolving landscape of contemporary art where tradition and innovation coexist.

The exhibition also stood out for the diversity of its participating artists. Emerging artists and established senior artists from different generations submitted works to the competition. In particular, young artists were given opportunities to compete for awards and demonstrate their creative potential. The National Assembly Speaker’s Award was presented to Geum Bo-seong, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award to Oh Chae-wan, and the Seoul Mayor’s Award to Jeong Ji-seon, recognizing artists who have contributed to the development of Korean art.

The strong participation of international artists further reinforced the global character of the exhibition. Artists from Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the United States, France, Mongolia, Pakistan, and other countries took part. Artists from different cultural backgrounds shared their perspectives and forms of expression through their works, adding greater significance to the exhibition as a venue for international cultural and artistic exchange.

Kim Nan-hee, an international organizing committee member and representative of Shu Gallery who oversaw the 33rd Korea International Art Exhibition, emphasized the significance of presenting works by artists from across generations, from emerging talents to veteran artists. She particularly highlighted the meaningful exchanges with artists who traveled from overseas and described the exhibition as an important platform for cultural and artistic communication.

Kim also expressed her gratitude to those who supported the organization and operation of the event. She noted the contributions of Chairman Kim Jeong-taek and directors Kim Oe-sik, Kim Gi-pyeong, Kim Sun-hwa, Lee Hyang-jae, and Park Yeon-hee. Their cooperation throughout the preparation and operation of the exhibition helped bring the international event to completion.

Another notable aspect of the exhibition was its combination of established art forms, such as traditional painting and calligraphy, with newer creative approaches including AI and digital painting. The coexistence of different media and artistic expressions reflected the changing and expanding landscape of contemporary art. Visitors were able to experience a wide range of artistic perspectives shaped by different countries, generations, and genres.

The competition and exhibition also provided emerging artists with opportunities to introduce their works to a wider audience while giving established artists new points of connection with fellow creators. Beyond simply displaying artworks, the event encouraged communication among artists and the sharing of cultural experiences, reinforcing its significance as an international art event.

The 33rd Korea International Art Exhibition brought together tradition and modernity, as well as Korean and international perspectives, within a single exhibition space. By connecting artists from diverse countries and generations through their works, the event demonstrated the broad spectrum of Korean art and reaffirmed the potential of art to serve as a bridge for global cultural exchange.
