Jemulpo-gu District in Incheon (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) has newly formed an advisory body aimed at enhancing the fairness and expertise of local tax administration. The district announced on the 9th that it held the "2026 Jemulpo-gu Local Tax Review Committee Appointment Ceremony and First Meeting" on the 7th at Gyeolmagi Hall in the Songnim District Office, presenting appointment letters to the inaugural committee members.

At the first meeting held following the appointment ceremony, a chairperson was elected by the members through mutual vote, and the "Operating Rules of the Incheon Jemulpo-gu Local Tax Review Committee," which serve as the basis for the committee's operations, were also enacted.
The committee is composed of 14 members in total: 10 experts from various fields, including tax accountants, certified public accountants, certified appraisers, lawyers and university professors, along with four related public officials. The composition, with external experts making up more than half of the committee, has been evaluated as enhancing the independence and objectivity of its deliberations.
Going forward, the committee will be responsible for deliberating and resolving matters directly related to protecting taxpayers' rights and interests, such as local tax objections and pre-assessment reviews, as well as major issues across local tax administration as a whole, including the determination of standard market prices and estimates of local tax revenue budgets.
Amid a growing trend of objections and appeals related to local taxes, the establishment of a standing review body involving outside experts is seen as a mechanism to enhance trust in the exercise of taxation authority. It is particularly significant as a body expected to provide stable support for the integrated tax administration system established since the launch of Jemulpo-gu District.
Jemulpo-gu Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, "I deeply thank all the members who have taken on this role," adding, "I ask that you play an active role and offer advice, drawing on your expertise and experience in each field, so that we can implement fair and trustworthy local tax administration and protect taxpayers' rights and interests."
