The Ministry of Science and ICT announced the director-level reassignments on September 4, setting the effective date for September 7.

Under the reshuffle, Park Byung-hyun (朴炳譞) was reassigned as Director for Americas and Asia Cooperation. The post oversees cooperation with countries across the Americas and Asia in the fields of science, technology and information and communications, and will steer working-level affairs in a policy environment where international coordination is growing ever more important.

Kwon Eun-tae (權恩兌) was appointed Director of the AI Transition Support Division. The division underpins the artificial intelligence transition across industry and society as a whole, handling the working-level implementation of the AI policy the government has been prioritizing.

Both reassignments are internal moves within the Ministry of Science and ICT, with both officials remaining under the ministry.

By installing new leaders over the AI transition and the Americas-Asia international cooperation divisions, which are core policy areas for the ministry, the move is read as an effort to secure the continuity and momentum of the related policies. Inquiries regarding the reshuffle can be directed to the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Operations Support Division (Director Choi Moon-ki, 044-202-4110).
