The Ganghwa-gun Council of the Movement for a Righteous Life (chaired by Lim In-gwan) held a ‘Songpyeon Making With Multicultural Homemakers’ event together with marriage immigrant women on the 15th, and delivered the finished songpyeon to multicultural families and low-income households in the district. Held ahead of Chuseok, the gathering combined a traditional culture experience with neighborly sharing.

The event was arranged in the run-up to the Chuseok holiday. It was launched with the aim of letting marriage immigrant women experience Korean traditional culture by making songpyeon, one of the nation’s signature holiday foods, with their own hands, while communicating naturally with members of the local community.
Marriage immigrant women and members of the Movement for a Righteous Life took part together on the day. Sitting side by side, participants shaped the songpyeon while reflecting on the meaning of the holiday, and built friendships as they shared conversation. For marriage immigrants still adjusting to life in Korea, it was a chance to learn traditional holiday culture with their fingertips, while for local residents it was an occasion to close the distance with their multicultural neighbors.
The significance of the event did not end with the experience itself. The songpyeon that participants carefully shaped was delivered to multicultural families and low-income households in the district, carrying warm sentiment to neighbors ahead of Chuseok. By tying together the cultural experience and volunteer sharing, the organizers allowed the warmth of the holiday to circulate within the local community.
Lim In-gwan, chair of the Ganghwa-gun Council of the Movement for a Righteous Life, said, ‘I hope this became a meaningful time for marriage immigrant women to experience our traditional culture firsthand and communicate naturally with the local community,’ adding, ‘We will continue to promote volunteer activities where the diverse members of our community can come together and share affection among neighbors.’
Meanwhile, the Ganghwa-gun Council of the Movement for a Righteous Life is working to build a warm local community by carrying out various volunteer and sharing activities for the harmony and development of the region.
