The city of Incheon (Mayor Park Chan-dae) has levied roughly 1.51 million cases of September regular property tax totaling about 685.2 billion won, urging those liable to pay within the deadline. The payment period runs from September 16 to 30, and missing it adds a 3 percent late-payment penalty.

Incheon said it has entered September as the month for regular property tax payments and has asked those liable to pay within the deadline. The property tax levied this time amounts to some 1.51 million cases worth about 685.2 billion won.
Property tax is levied twice a year on those who own housing, land, buildings and the like as of June 1, the assessment reference date. In July, tax is imposed on half of the housing portion along with buildings, aircraft and ships, while in September it is levied on land and the remaining half of the housing portion. Homeowners therefore pay their annual property tax in two installments, in July and September.
The payment period for this September regular property tax is from Wednesday, September 16, to Wednesday, September 30. Without visiting a financial institution in person, taxpayers can pay their taxes at night or on holidays through WeTax (wetax.go.kr), the mobile app Smart WeTax, and simple-pay services such as KakaoPay. The measure is intended to ease the payment burden on office workers and older residents who find it difficult to visit a counter.
However, since a 3 percent late-payment penalty is added once the deadline passes, payment within the period is necessary. In particular, on the final day, the 30th, access to the payment system may surge and cause delays, so it is safer to pay ahead of the closing date. This is an appeal to prevent situations in which an access delay causes someone to miss the deadline and incur unnecessary penalties.
Other inquiries related to property tax can be handled through the tax division of the county or district office with jurisdiction over the location of the property.
Kim Beom-su, the city’s fiscal planning officer, said, ‘We will make active use of various media such as the press, online channels and electronic display boards so that citizens do not miss the property tax deadline and bear additional costs such as late-payment penalties, and we will do our best to enhance payment convenience.’
