Under the slogan ‘Rise Up, Incheon! With a Growing Social and Solidarity Economy!’, the city said it aims to use the expo to strengthen the institutional foundation of the social and solidarity economy together with citizens. The social and solidarity economy refers to an economic approach that goes beyond the pursuit of profit, seeking to create jobs and resolve local issues on the basis of cooperation and solidarity; social enterprises, cooperatives, and village enterprises fall into this category.
The centerpiece of the expo is the ‘Social Plus Market’, in which some 60 social and solidarity economy enterprises will take part. Participating companies will exhibit and sell their products directly, while citizens can experience the products and services on-site and communicate with the businesses. Through this, the city expects to showcase the quality of social and solidarity economy products and to broaden trust in them as well as a stable base for sales channels. For consumers, it offers a chance to encounter products they can buy with confidence, while for smaller local enterprises it serves as an opportunity to secure new sales channels.
During the event, a ‘Performance-Sharing Session’ will also be held. Serving as a forum to share the achievements of outstanding social and solidarity enterprises and to exchange experiences and information among businesses, it is expected to function as a venue for communication that expands networks between enterprises.
The city anticipates that around 6,000 people, including citizens, businesses, and experts, will visit the expo. Officials expect it to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among diverse actors while serving as a chance to deepen citizens’ understanding of and participation in the social and solidarity economy.
Kim Jun-seong, Director-General of Incheon’s Economy Bureau, said, ‘This expo is a starting point for sharing the values and achievements of the social and solidarity economy with citizens and for realizing social value in the community based on solidarity and cooperation among diverse actors.’ He added, ‘We will continue to provide support so that the social and solidarity economy can contribute to resolving local issues and revitalizing the regional economy.’
