Cooperative framework established to ensure safe and smooth event operations

Guro-gu will provide active support for the successful hosting of World Youth Day, to be held in Seoul in 2027.

On the 6th, Guro-gu signed a business agreement with the WYD Seoul 2027 Local Organizing Committee and the 16th Guro Deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul at the Renaissance Hall of the Guro-gu Office, establishing a cooperative framework to support event participants and ensure smooth event operations.

The signing ceremony was attended by Guro-gu Mayor Jang In-hong and Rev. Lee Seung-cheol, Dean of the 16th Deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, who attended on behalf of the WYD Seoul 2027 Local Organizing Committee, among others.

World Youth Day Seoul 2027 is an international Catholic event hosted by the Holy See and organized by the WYD Seoul 2027 Local Organizing Committee, with up to 1 million young people from around the world expected to take part.

The main event will be held from August 3 to 8, 2027, at major venues across Seoul, including Seoul World Cup Stadium in Sangam, Gwanghwamun Square, and Gocheok Sky Dome. As a large-scale international event to be held in Asia for the second time and in a non-Catholic country for the first time, it is expected to draw young people and pilgrims from around the world to Seoul.

The agreement was pursued to lay the groundwork for cooperation between the local government and the local religious community so that participants visiting Guro-gu during the event can stay safely and comfortably.

Under the agreement, Guro-gu will actively provide its local infrastructure and administrative resources for the successful hosting of the event and support its smooth operation.

The Organizing Committee will oversee overall event operations and coordinate preparations and management, while the 16th Guro Deanery will establish a cooperative network among local Catholic parishes and take the lead in supporting participants and on-site operations.

Going forward, Guro-gu plans to maintain ongoing communication with each institution, share updates on event preparations, and continue providing the necessary support to ensure participants experience no inconvenience during their stay in Guro-gu.

Guro-gu Mayor Jang In-hong said, “World Youth Day, to be held next year, is a meaningful cultural exchange event that will bring young people from all over the world to Seoul,” adding, “We will spare no administrative support to ensure that it is a safe and successful event.”

He further added, “We will do our utmost to ensure that, through this event, Guro-gu is remembered by young people around the world as an attractive city they will want to visit again.”
