The Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) Health Center conducted the "2026 Disaster-Site Emergency Response Drill" with the Songdo Fire Station and volunteer firefighters from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the 7th in the auditorium on the second floor of the Songdo Fire Station. The drill was designed to build on-site response capabilities so that critically ill patients can receive prompt emergency treatment when many patients occur at once in a disaster such as a fire, and to strengthen the cooperation system between the fire authorities and the health center.

The drill was based on a scenario in which a fire broke out at the National Hangeul Museum of World Writing Systems and left 20 patients. It consisted of, in order, a 119 report and dispatch following the disaster, the first-arriving ambulance crew's assessment of the scene and collection of information, operation of a temporary medical post for initial emergency treatment, operation of an on-site emergency medical post led by the health center, and a report on the results of the operation after the drill ended.

The on-site emergency medical post is a base that provides emergency treatment and coordinates the medical response at a disaster scene. The drill focused on confirming whether the fire authorities' initial emergency response leads smoothly into the health center's on-site medical response, and on checking cooperation procedures with the disaster medical assistance team and others.

Before the main drill, a preliminary drill was held the same day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants mastered their individual duties and went through a final rehearsal. In the main drill that followed, evaluators observed the response on site and checked items that need improvement.

An official at the Ongjin-gun County Health Center said, "At a disaster scene where many patients occur at the same time, it is important for each agency to carry out its role accurately and to share on-site information quickly." The official added, "Based on what we checked in this drill, we will strengthen the cooperation system with the fire authorities and raise our response capabilities so that residents in critical condition can receive emergency treatment faster."

In a disaster with many casualties, the speed of the initial response and information sharing between agencies determine the scale of damage. If the improvements identified in this drill are reflected in the actual response system, the safety net for residents is expected to become stronger.
