Through fellows composed of senior and emerging researchers in each field, the city promotes exchange among science and technology professionals and supports research activities linked to local industry.

This was followed by the presentation of the “Incheon Science and Technology Award” to four people who contributed to the development of local science and technology and the spread of science culture. The recipients were: ▲ Grand Prize in Science — Professor Lee Won-jong of the Department of Biotechnology at Incheon National University; ▲ Grand Prize in Technology — Professor Jeon Gwang-gil of the Department of Embedded Systems Engineering at Incheon National University; ▲ Gold Prize in Technology — Choi Sun-pil, CEO of Choice Technology Co., Ltd.; ▲ Grand Prize in Culture — Lee Yu-gyeong, principal researcher at the Korea Polar Research Institute. In the special lecture, Lee Sang-mok, former president of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, presented a direction for the development of Incheon’s manufacturing industry to respond to the rapidly changing industrial environment, under the theme “In the Era of Deglobalization, a Win-Win Strategy for Transforming Incheon’s Manufacturing Industry.”

After the lecture, attendees shared their institutions’ research activities and areas of interest and discussed future cooperation plans. Kim Sang-gil, head of the city’s Future Industry Bureau, said, “This achievement-sharing conference is a meaningful occasion to share together the fruits of efforts built up over the past year in research fields and companies, and to prepare for Incheon science and technology’s next leap forward,” adding, “We will strengthen R&D support and the foundation for industry-academia-research cooperation so that outstanding research achievements can lead to the growth of local industry.”

Incheon City plans to continue building a sustainable R&D support system in which local researchers and companies can thrive together, and to keep expanding the industry-academia-research cooperation network so that advanced science and technology achievements connect to innovation across local industry as a whole.
